This month we look at:

and also:

Gadgets

I love gadgets. Fancy clocks, weather reports, currency rates and much more. Just right click on the desktop and select gadgets. Choose the ones you want (you can have more than one of the same) and put them where you want.

If you want to see them all the time, then you need a program that will create a 'border'. I'm trying maxmax from kmtools.win-os.pl. It sits in the system tray by the clock and is fully customisable.

Icon management

Depending on your screen resolution you might find the icons on the desktop a bit big or small. Click the desktop, hold the Ctrl key and use the mouse scroll wheel to change the size of the icons.

I find it a great help to organise related icons into groups around the screen. Makes them much easier to find.

Two screens

This is the best! An even bigger virtual screen or two screens. Every version of Windows from XP onwards has multi-monitor support. All you need is two graphics outputs. With a laptop you already have a built-in screen and the ability to drive an external one. With a desktop, even a cheap graphics card has two outputs.

Plug in another monitor and off you go. In XP, right click the desktop, select properties and then the display tab. In Vista, right click and choose personalize, then display settings. For Win 7 right click and go to screen resolution.

People that I'm working with

  • I recently needed some leaflets distributing. I'd used other leaflet companies before, who needed a lot of leaflets and could only drop the leaflets to a wide area.

But I know who my potential customers are and I wanted to target them. That why I use Distribution Unlimited, as they can get my leaflet distribution down to street level. By working together we identified where to deliver my leaflets and the phone was ringing with enquiries before the delivery was completed!

  • A1 is a group of companies supporting businesses. Their bookkeeping business (A1 Financials (Oxford)) was recently shortlisted for bookkeeping practice of the year by the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers, they finished in the top 5 from over 3200 practices. A1 Financials stands out because they can provide tailored reports to help you understand your business, systems to help you maximise your time and are happy to advise wherever possible.

They recently worked for a client who was concerned he was not close enough to his finances on a regular basis. They worked with the business to understand the needs and establish the requirements necessary. They quickly got the day to day bookkeeping up to date and produced a financial system so that it was easy to collate information. Then an accurate breakdown of the business’ financial records provided the detail needed to make key decisions. Because of all this, the business saved over £5,000 with the same turnover.

Franchising opportunities
The flying doctor is expanding the fleet and there are franchise opportunities across the country.

Thank you  for your support that has taken my business to a high altitude. The next stage has taken off - putting flying doctors into every town in the UK. There are still fantastic opportunities for people to join the team.

The flying doctor is  looking for enthusiastic individuals, with a  passion for computers, who  really enjoy working with people. You can help them run their own business!

If you know people who would like this opportunity then ask them to call the flying doctor on 01865 748197 or email
franchise@theflyingdoctor.biz to start on their success.
